And now, cacao is here, too – with tea.

More specifically, the cacao is the tea.

Small batch-crafted from slowcocoa's house-blend of slow-roasted, single-origin Haitian, Guatemalan and Puerto Rican-origin cacao beans, cacao tea is unlike any other beverage in our teabag-box basket. (Don't know about you, but we love a basket brimming with teas.)

It shares a consistency with other herbal tea, so is not to be confused with the more familiar beverage of eternal youth and holiday cheer that goes by the deceptively similar descriptor, "hot chocolate".

Cacao tea is hot, all right; and it is loosely related to chocolate. But hot chocolate it is not.

It's light and airy, naturally sweet and rustic, with a deep, chocolatey aroma that lifts our spirit all times of day. Its sips and smells are calming, even as they remind us that energy is sometimes a choice as much as a daily inheritance from the sun, trees, clouds, snacks and sips that fill our cup.

We like to sip slowly, yes, and also breathe deeply: there is something healing in these husks.

Hot or iced: cacao tea is as versatile as the beholder.

When the weather turns hot, brew it cold. Plenty of our customers already do, and it might be our favorite way to drink it all summer. Cold brewing softens any bitterness and coaxes out the fruitier, more delicate notes hiding in the cacao.
